The Pillar is the annual publication of the study body for George Peabody College for Teachers. Peabody College. In 1875 Peabody was founded after University of Nashville split into two distinct institutions. What was the preparatory school of University of Nashville became University School of Nashville and the college became Peabody Normal School. Eventually, the school would be known as George Peabody College for Teachers. In 1979 Peabody became part of Vanderbilt University and today is known as Peabody College of Education and Human Development., George Peabody College for Teachers., 1949-1979.
